jabbering magpies

I’m still relatively new to the Southwest US, so I don’t know magpies well. Seeing them do the things noted in this poem surprised me.

A quick search on Google reveals that while insects form a mainstay of the magpie diet, they also hunt other birds and small mammals, sometimes working in groups to accomplish their objective.
